Recently, reddit has announced some changes to their API that may have pretty serious impact on many of its users.

You may have already seen quite a few posts like these across some of the other subreddits that you browse, so we're just going to cut to the chase. What's Happening

Third Party reddit apps (such as Apollo, Reddit is Fun and others) are going to become ludicrously more expensive for it's developers to run, which will in turn either kill the apps, or result in a monthly fee to the users if they choose to use one of those apps to browse. Put simply, each request to reddit within these mobile apps will cost the developer money. The developers of Apollo were quoted around $2 million per month for the current rate of usage. The only way for these apps to continue to be viable for the developer is if you (the user) pay a monthly fee, and realistically, this is most likely going to just outright kill them.

If you use a third party app to browse reddit your experience will probably change for the worse.

Additionally, these changes will impact apps used by the sight impaired making use of reddit nearly impossible for those users.

What can you do?

• Complain. Message the admins by speeding a modmail to r/reddit.com

• Leave a negative review of the official reddit app on iOS or Android and sign your username in support to this post.

• Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /r/ModCoord.

• Boycott! Boycott reddit on June 12th through the 13th
