Why are you trying to get water off of an outdoor patio?

u/infinite_zeroes Jun 09 '23
Because its damaged/not built right, so the water flows to the middle, instead of the sides.

Lol I was starting laying pavers for a square patio. Started it and had a friend see what I was doing.
Helped me out because I was gonna do it wrong. I wanted it flat you know, told me you want it raised in the center just a by a inch or two. No pooling or anything 3 years later.

Yep. A majority of concrete crews don’t give a flying fuck. I had to baby sit the crew that did my pool decking because they take to cut every corner possible. It took a call to their management to get them to do basic shit like tamp down fresh soil, put stand offs under the rebar, etc. pitiful.

It’s sad that we now have better technology for this type of thing but people refuse to do it properly making the updated methods redundant. Then they get shitty if you watch them to make sure the job you’re paying them for is done right.

When they poured our driveway, which goes down a steep hill, then flattened out to a garage on one side and parking pad on the other, we wanted them to make it run away from the garage and the guys were totally stumped. One of our carpenters came and showed them. Not sure why he wasn’t hired and put in charge cause he did great. We could see it was going to be a disaster otherwise but had no clue how to actually do it right.

Now drag her around by her feet and the deck will be substantially more dry soon!

So I've been in the construction industry for years now (specifically surveying) and I still have no idea why people insist on installing incredibly smooth tiles as outdoor flooring in areas that get a fair bit of rain. Shockingly smooth tiles are slippery when wet.

isn't there a non slippery sealant for this? Growing up in PR it was common for ppl to fall for like this but, some would put something to avoid slips.

Currently in the process of building a patio in my backyard.
Yes, there are additives that you can add to (almost any?) Concrete/stone Sealants.
They're little glass beads or granules of something that will blend into the sealant and not be seen, but will give it a more grippy texture.

awesome thank you for the response. If I recall correctly it felt like dried paint scruffy looking.

Yes, it’s called a light broom finish and is just like it sounds. The concrete is finished with a broom to create a nonslip surface. This is the only finish for wet areas. A smooth finish will put you on your ass.

Is she trippin?
By that, I mean is she on a hallucinogen? Seems weird to take a spill like that then go back to.. patting the water away..

Not tripping but likely a bruised ego. I could where their spouse/friend is probably roasting them from inside and this is their ‘I meant to do this’ response

Have you or a loved one been injured in a slip in fall incident due to homeowners negligence? If so, call now...

I think it’s funny that people keep putting video of themselves out there on the internet being completely stupid.

Go to a swimming pool store and purchase a long handle squeegee thing. Common sense is uncommon.

I typically bust out the battery powered leaf blower to push water off of surfaces. I have no idea what she's trying to accomplish and even why she's doing it in the first place.

The most smoothest fastest slide I ever been on was a polished concrete slide at a modern style playground

Her continuing her job on the ground reminded me of my little one when she started walking tests but kept falling and just decided to continue closer to the ground 🤣

u/taptapper Jun 12 '23
OK. What the hell was she doing?
1
u/Hot_Hat_1225 Jun 12 '23
Basically she decided that all this tripping wasn’t worth it and continued to crawl for a while longer - until one day she just got up and walked without a wobble 🤣

She got very lucky.

Were you trying to kick water off the deck with your feet? Haha a squeegee might work better
