You either know a Walter, or are a Walter.

Oof. Imagine reading this and realizing you don't have a Walter in your life.

In your wisdom Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok and Hill 364. These young men gave their lives, and so did Donny.

Not only he does, you get the ashes of a lot of people from that day. Shit just gets scraped together with a lot of leftovers.

First time I have seen a coffee cup double up as an urn

u/Chalky_Mike Jun 02 '23
Not quite the same, but we kept my mother's ashes in a Maxwell House container. Not for money purposes, but because she wanted it that way.

I guess your mom was a bowler?

The masses are fucking dumb, man. And I know there's an irony in me smugly saying so, as I too am one of the masses. But Jesus Christ, dude. The bulk of us are beyond help, and I don't understand how anyone is functioning.

When my friends father passed away, he was cremated and had requested to be scattered at sea. The mortuary gave my friend the ashes in a football shaped dissolving shell, so he just yeeted it into the ocean with no chance of “ash back”. I know my friend had watched The Big Lebowski plenty of times with me, so not sure if he asked specifically for this option or not.

If you were in the Navy (my experience is subs specifically) you can be cremated and “laid to rest” sea. Now the trick is in how you specify you be sent off the boat. “Dumped at Sea” and the boat will surface and toss your urn off the side. However if you request to be “Spread at Sea” they must surface and during the ceremony they open it up and actually pour you out.
Apparently it’s not uncommon for things like this to happen and the video they are supposed to take for the family “gets corrupted”. I’ll be damn sure to specify that I want said video especially if my Dad ends up all over the guy dumping the urn lol

That’s exactly what happened to my grandfather, well my father actually. My grandfather, who lived to be 100 years old had the unfortunate shower incident, which led to him passing away after falling in it. He was in exceptional health, and would have certainly lived longer. Had he not fallen that day back in 1997. But he did fall. And his instructions in his will werefor him, not to have a memorial service and not to be buried, as he was not religious. But we did have his cremated ashes, and so my grandmother instructed us to put the ashes into the ocean, as they lived in Florida, just about 200 feet away from the shoreline. So, some family and friends gathered and my father walked the urn solemnly down to the beach, and we all spoke a few words about my grandfather. My father, who had had a somewhat contentious relationship with his father, opened the urn and threw the ashes outward into the ocean. But instead of the ashes falling into the ocean, they blew all over my father. Spring or the Ashes from his mouth and face, he then swam into the ocean, and came out. The irony was not lost on any of us, as my dad joked that “even in death, I feel like I can’t get out from under my father.” We all laughed knowingly.

What a waste. I put my mothers ashes in an ouija board. You don’t get too many human ashes in your lifetime why the hell would you just throw them away. Get creative people!!

Lmao. That was my worse fear. My FIL had to be cremated. My husband and I were planning on throwing his ashes at this light house he liked and I always said "with my stupid luck there's gonna be a down wind and I'll get covered".

Things you don’t do: tug on Superman’s cape, spit into the wind (i.e., throw ashes into the wind), pull the mask off the Lone Ranger, and don’t mess around with Jim. - Jim Croce.

I’d also like my remains to be spread at the beach, but I don’t want to be cremated.
