The proper way to teach someone a choke hold is to first explain she could make him pass out in 7 seconds because what she is doing is a blood choke by cutting off the blood flowing to his brain.

Everyone in the comments are joking about this but like he told her to do it softly and did not give consent to choke this hard. I use to do BJJ and you can seriously hurt someone doing this. She crossed a serious boundary and if the genders were reversed I bet y’all wouldn’t be making the same jokes.

Not even a joke comment, bad fucking juju that you do not wanna give power to. I learned this the hard way. Some people want to dominate others and are sadistic dommes. Some are psychopaths who haven't had power before and only reveal it when they first get an opportunity to hurt someone who can't fight back. There's a difference and it will leave you with lasting mental and physical trauma.

Boys usually grow up wrestling with friends, play fighting, playing contact sports, etc. That develops an understanding of how hard to do things, and how hard not to do things.
Girls usually don't. In my experience, girls do things too hard in "play" situations because they don't have that innate understanding of what's not okay
→ More replies44
u/2geeks Jan 30 '23
Sorry but I must disagree. Women don’t play/wrestle, as you rightly say. But, they do know how hard they do a move like this. You can feel how much strength you’re putting in, and how the person is reacting.
The fact that she eases off and then starts again shows that she knew.

u/SaltyLittleLich Jan 31 '23
Yikes.
He straight up told her not to do it hard, and she was trying to hurt him to feel strong. He said don't do it hard, and she went as hard as she could, pulling on his neck to the point of trying to drag him from his chair.
I've done different kinds of martial arts half of my life, and even in full contact tournaments, you'd never pull shit like this. I'm talking properly trained fighters who know the risks and how to do a technique properly would be disqualified for doing what she did. If you pulled shit like this during training, you could say goodbye to ever going back there.
That's a huge red flag IMO that she was this proud after clearly hurting him after being told not to, and I know this is going to be unpopular to say, but if the roles were reversed and he did it to her, the post would be on the total piece of shit subreddit with people calling for his arrest, not on here with people making fun of her like they are with him.
So not OK.

OMG i did this with my niece when she was smaller (11 yol) . I'd give her piggy back rides in her home . I taught her how to do this , until she learned how to quickly do this and with confidence. She never when full tight on the hold/choke; though one day she jumped on my back for piggy back ride and snapped that rear choke on me. I i semi blacked out and went head first into the wall. We fixed the wall ; but well worth the lesson ; she knows it works and I am proud of her.
Anytime I visit ; she points to wall and tells me ; i can damage you now uncle , LMAO

I get if, if she was a bit overzealous the first time, not fully knowing the hold's effectiveness and just wanting to get it right. I know he said not hard, but I could understand her making a bit of a mistake and stopping there.
But going in the second time after she clearly loosened and heard him confirm that she did it properly the first time was super fucked up.
46
u/eye_no_nuttin Jan 29 '23
It was her comments afterwards… “Do you think I could get her??” As if she was already in a altercation with another girl and wanted to beat her ass .. the attitude with no remorse, just the smug gum chewing smile .. yeah No.

Crazy story, I threw a party a while back (years ago) at my old townhome. Outside a guy was "showing" this girl how to do a chokehold. Well, she did it, and then he flipped her over his head. She landed back first (her spine) onto my cement stairs. We were all like WTF are you doing bro. His excuse was he was also showing her how to get out of it. Soooo.....ofcourse they got engaged and have been married for about 7 or 8 years now.

MMA fighter here: she's doing it wrong. You need to press the underarm against the throat. Otherwise the person you are holding could turn the head into the elbow where often is enough space to not get the person out as quickly as it should.
→ More replies
47
u/ghettoccult_nerd Jan 29 '23
get the chin up, his adam's apple should be pressed to the inside of your elbow. pull hair if you got to. the moment hes "locked in", bring your forearm as close you can to your bicep, making a crushing like manuever. that will put a blood choke on him, you gotta dilly-dally a few seconds before he passes out. if you behind him, just stay shifting your bodyweight around. being choked, trying to defend yourself AND maintaining your balance is a lot for a person to resist.
but.
if got him locked in, do the before mentioned crushing motion, but flex your bicep. this is a critical step for those with even a bit of muscle to their arms. you know you got it right when you hear him immediately panic for breath. an air choke takes longer, but is panic inducing. lean back, bring their head down as close to your midsection for control, and keep them from getting their legs under them. simply walking backwards in an erratic zigzag motion will be keep most busy.
shout out to my gf on teaching me how to defend myself!

My brother was a semi-pro MMA fighter (fought for money, but never got signed on a contract), and his gf thought all of the jui-jitsu stuff was bs. They were play wrestling when he put her in a triangle choke and put just the tiniest amount of pressure, and her eyes got really huge and a smile came across her face. She's like "dude!! Wft was that?!? Show me!"
He showed her the proper position for a triangle choke, and she just straight up shipped it on him. Knocked his ass out cold.

Cinco de Mayo 2018 some friends, my girlfriend, and I were drinking and hanging out at the pool. We were showing my girlfriend and the other girls there how to do a proper choke hold and my girlfriend just couldn't get it right.
Fast forward to May of 2019 we are at my best friend's wedding reception, of which I was the best man for. Hammered and talking to my parents I felt someone wrap their arm around my neck and the next thing I know I'm in and out of consciousness getting carried to my hotel room.
Apparently my girlfriend decided that it was a good time to try a choke hold again and as I was hammered I didn't even resist. My parents thought that my girlfriend and I must joke around that way until my face hit the table and I was limp.
She's never tried again and to this day we have a funny story. A very dangerous story, that we've both learned from, but a funny story. Also I must not have learned too much because I married her last year.

He is showing a rear naked choke, which is actually a strangulation rather than a choke. You are applying pressure to each side of the neck which cuts off the blood flow to the brain. People can hold their breath for ages, you pass out when blood flow is slowed or cut off.

In college I was sitting on edge of a bed and this girl was sitting behind me on the bed. We were all shooting the shit and started talking about martial arts cause I grew up doing it. She randomly rear naked chokes me and I couldn’t get out of it as most people can’t get out of a locked in RNC. Hell, a little kid could choke an older man out that way. When I got mad everyone started clowning me for being choked by a girl as someone who does martial arts shouldn’t I have been able to get out. Got to school that following Monday and everyone was talking about it like we were wrestling when it happened. Had never been more angry in my Fucking life.

It’s like when I was teaching my wife (girlfriend at the time) how to strike a potential attacker, and she decided “practice must mean it can’t really hurt”, and actually punched me in the nose and stuck her thumbs in my eyes and acted shocked when I was like “WTF are you doing?!!? You aren’t supposed to actually do it when we’re just practicing!! That shit hurts!”
I think some people in general, but especially some women, lack common sense when it comes to combat training. Give them a chance to hurt a man, and they’ll gleefully seize the opportunity.
Again… Some … Not all.
It’s just something I’ve especially noticed in women while I was an assistant instructor at a Krav Maga studio.
The men generally knew to not make actual contact or to pull their punches when we didn’t have padding on, or when we were doing no-contact drills.
The women generally had to be told repeatedly to stop hitting people with actual force until the pads were on.
But it was usually something they did with men. If they were doing no-contact drills with other women, it wasn’t an issue. But once you paired them with a man, it was a consistent problem.

Everyone's joking about a new kink being unlocked, but (assuming this video is authentic and not more viral attention-seeking fakery) she crossed a line in how forcefully she performed the choke, and he seemed like he didn't even know what to say after he stared at her and said, "what the hell?". Y'all wouldn't be chuckling about "kinks" if the genders were reversed in this situation, and I think that's something worth keeping in mind. Reddit is doing a weird perpetuation of the double standard that men welcome what women abhor. (or that it's ok when done to a man)
Edit: Rather than interested in this particular couple, my comment is more focused on the observation of how Reddit and societal hiveminds respond to situations like this. Why do we have double standards and how do we justify them. It's interesting how people view themselves as progressive but are very married to the old-world gender roles about who should be seen as a victim and what is seen as funny vs problematic depending on gender. It's not to shame anyone, it's just worth thinking about. It's also interesting that every person who doesn't like this being pointed out is immediately jumping to the label incel, which is really sad. I guess we're in gradeschool: if you don't like something, just call the other person names you think will hurt them.
