r/MadeMeSmile Mar 22 '23 Wholesome Seal of Approval 1 I'll Drink to That 1

A photographer took a picture just as this couple threw ashes into a river. He asked them who it was. They answered their beloved dog of 15 years. The photographer asked for permission to edit their photo and this was what he sent them. Helping Others

I’m going to go hug my dog now.

27

u/NJHitmen Mar 22 '23

I'm also going to go hug this guy's dog

17

u/angle_madeup Mar 22 '23

She would be down with that. She’s good at it. I live near a university and sometimes a random student will ask if they can pet her/hug her when I am walking her. She’s happy to give hugs to students missing their dogs back home.

6

u/NJHitmen Mar 22 '23

Cool. I do have my own dog, and I hugged the shit out of him immediately after posting the comment above. He didn't really seem to enjoy it. He's a good boy and affectionate in a lot of ways, but I guess hugging is not exactly up his alley.

3

u/angle_madeup Mar 22 '23

I’m guessing some dogs think it’s aggressive or something. My dog likes a nice tight hug, even from strangers. Either sitting down, with a side hug, or she gets up on her hind legs and puts her front paws around you, or if she’s really into it, you get the top of her head buried in your chest when you squat down.

u/evemeatay Mar 22 '23

5

As soon as my eyes saw the reflection the reaction was involuntary. Damnit Yuna I still miss you so much.

2

u/ape94 Mar 22 '23

First I saw the reflection, then the rainbow. That’s what got me.

5

u/sm00thkillajones Mar 22 '23

Damnit! I didn’t want to cry today!

3

u/yogisnark Mar 22 '23

I jumped to reply EXACTLY this

3

u/BluRayVen Mar 22 '23

Yep. Lost 2 boys 3 years ago and 2 months later, a stray came into our lives that we fell in love with.

I was crying, now I'm sobbing 😭

u/BalkeElvinstien Mar 22 '23

Listen to Sleep in the Heat by PUP. It's the saddest song about a pet dying ever written

"Yesterday I went back to my apartment

To see how you've been holding up

You hadn't been eating, I thought you were sleeping

But you're not waking up

And I want you to know that I'd spend every bit of my

Pitiful savings and loans

Just to see you again

But I know I wont"

3

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

Oh, man. 😩. This is heavy and hits close to home.

Thank you for sharing.

21

u/Savageho3 Mar 22 '23

Stealing this for my mom's urn, thanks

9

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

♥️ it's one of those quotes that can make me crumble reading it

3

u/fistingcouches Mar 22 '23

Fuck I’ve never choked up from a quote 😭 what is this from?

3

u/bunnykitten94 Mar 22 '23

You just caused an immediate tear out of my eye and I've never had that happen before

4

u/being-weird Mar 22 '23

Is this Lemony Snickitt?

6

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

I don't think so... I mean maybe, but I found it when coping with the death of two pets in a year (one was my 18 year old cat and the other was my little senior dog with health problems) 😞

7

u/being-weird Mar 22 '23

I just looked it up and it says this was originally written by someone called David Ellsworth. He's credited as the author of World War II, but I'm assuming that's a book.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

Well, now we know :)

Thank you, David Ellsworth. What a beautiful quote.

2

u/Zantej Mar 22 '23

I'd say the war was a dick move though.

2

u/haoxinly Mar 22 '23

Nah he was the mastermind behind all of it.

2

u/being-weird Mar 22 '23

God damnit David. What the hell.

I'll be using this soon. My dog is only 6 years old but was diagnosed with Lymphoma last year. He's gone through chemo like a champ but we know the cancer will always return. I'm not sure I'll be able to walk through the doors of my house the day I help him cross that rainbow bridge

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

I got pretty teary eyed reading your comment. I still miss my Wheezie (Louise, dog) and Monster (cat).

I'm so sorry about your dog! You are lucky to have one another. You sound like a great dog owner.

Quick story.. lol--- I knew Wheezie was slowing down and I wanted to give here the best of days that I could. Every weekend she would get to go to the doggy bakery and pick out whatever she wanted. Think dehydrated chicken feet, pig feet, duck heads, as well as cookies and pup cup ice creams. She picked up a cow esophagus that day. We get it home, I'm doing something in another room and I walk in the bedroom a few minutes later and she's got this fucking esophagus on my bed. 🤣 Threw the esophagus on her bed and changed the sheets.

My Wheezie loved to get in the trash. She'll keep your pup company when the day comes and show them where the good trash is. Until then, I hope you have many, many more days ahead with your dog.♥️

2

u/Sweaty_Buttcheeks Mar 23 '23

Thank you for the kind words and sharing your story 🙂.

2

u/LadyFarquaad2 Mar 22 '23

Damn I was fine until I got to this comment.

Two years ago one of my cats got really sick. Got her to the vet and found out she had Bobcat fever. Her liver was shutting down and the vet tried all she could but ultimately we were too late.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '23

I had never heard of Bobcat fever...sounds terrible!

I'm sorry she's not with you anymore.

2

u/LadyFarquaad2 Mar 23 '23

I hadn't either until then. And the bad thing was we took her to two different vets and the first one just said it was a toothache. But she wasn't getting any better so we took her to another and by then it was too late. So I feel they're partially to blame.

131

u/polarbee Mar 22 '23

The real story is so much better AND actually credits the photographer/artist.

31

u/ecefour Mar 22 '23

This is so weird, what’s even the point of lying?

14

u/Rinzeler Mar 22 '23

Karma farming.

4

u/Canada_Checking_In Mar 22 '23

So much better? this is the same post but said what the dog and photographers name was....spoiler, Dog is Timber and photographer is Cecelie

12

u/boo_goestheghost Mar 22 '23

The difference is this story invents some coincidence where the photographer happens to catch this photo whereas in the real story the dog’s owners seek out the photographer

3

u/Canada_Checking_In Mar 22 '23

In the real story they simply ask someone to edit the photo, and that is if you believe that story

My point is, they could have just said the "extra" detail, which was almost nothing.

8

u/justsnotherdude Mar 22 '23 edited Mar 22 '23

I lost my first dog (boxer) at 7 of osteosarcoma…. This broke me REAL good for a while. Have a golden retriever now who consumes our attention and time who without a doubt will leave an even bigger hole. God I love having a dog but god damn losing them is the absolute fucking worst

3

u/snkeolr Mar 22 '23

I lost my dog in November 2021 and I still miss him as much as I did when he first passed. How were you able to get another dog? Did it help you move on? My wife keeps looking at dogs and I just don’t feel ready, but there are so many dogs that need rescued and I feel selfish.
