Watching on a Hisense 4K tv through an Xbox with Kodi

So I'm getting double subtitles as seen here. The subtitles in the background are hard-coded and the ones on top are coming from Kodi. The issue is, subtitles are disabled in Kodi, yet they still appear over the hard-coded subs. I've searched and can't find any fix for this. I've tried enabling then disabling the subtitles in the settings and it doesn't change anything.

Here is a picture showing that it's disabled in Kodi. Am I missing something here? I've tried playing the file outside of Kodi and the issue doesn't happen.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

I watch TV and movies in a variety of languages, but sadly, only speak one. I would love for Kodi to default the audio to the original language (based on the scraped metadata), and if that language isn't English, enable English subtitle, if available. Possible in Kodi?

I used to use kodi way back when it was xbmc, so I'm a returning user.

I'm considering it for an unusual use case, an arcade cabinet that stands dormant a lot of the time. Obviously this isn't going to be a normal video media centre, but something more like a jukebox. Does anyone have a recommendation for a skin or project fork that I should use as a starting point for this project?

I have my kodi (firestick) on a separate VLAN than my media server. For SMB, kodi used the same (nonstandard) port every time, so I could open that port. Playing around with NFS and looking at my firewall logs, kodi seems to use a random port every time it tries to access my server. I'm not a fan of opening up wide swaths of ports. Is there any way to tell Kodi to use a specific (or at least unchanging) port for NFS? I can't find any options to configure NFS anywhere in Kodi. Thanks for any help.

'pkg install mysql55-server' doesn't work on Truenas 13.0 U5.3, running a 12.4 jail. I've tried to install a more modern version (Mariadb) but it's beyond my skills and I can't get my kodi to use the database.

I have installed kodi on my pixel 6a running android 13 but it doesn't seem to show me my IP address nor the mac address but shows as connected. Wanted to connect tv via Upnp but its not discoverable, have the version 20.2 which I think is the latest.

I'm watching TV show, Episode 1. It has German and English dub. I switch from German to English, then select set as default for all media.

Episode 2 starts in German. Why? What else do I need to do to make a basic setting persist?

Hi folks, I'm having some odd issues playing movies on my basement theater on my NX7 and trying to narrow down where the problem might be. Basic symptom is when I try to playback a 2160p DD+5.1 Atmos DolbyVision + HDR movie I get what I'd describe as a weird macroblocking "flash" every few seconds... movie continues playing, image reconstitutes, but it's certainly annoying. I verified that this doesn't happen if I play the file in VLC on a recent M2 Macintosh.

So, to try and diagnose further I tried playing it on a 1st generation NVIDIA Shield and a current model AppleTV, both using Plex. Same issue (file wouldn't even play on AppleTV unless I enabled their new video/audio player - with old, screen just went blank and projector fans spun up and whined until I backed out). I also tried playing the file using Kodi on the Shield - same issue.

Projector is set to framerate match, and the playback apps are set to send original framerate. I know that AppleTV has a lot of issues with playback right now, but at this point I'm a bit stumped since I've tried a variety of devices and playback clients and can't seem to figure out how to get this to work. I'd certainly appreciate it if anyone had either a similar setup that works, or suggestions on things to try? Thank you!

So, I have an old tv box with a 905W Amlogic processor that is absolutely awful at running Kodi. The main issue is that it simply quits out of Kodi at random times.

I mainly watch a M3U stream and that’s it. So, I thought about building a computer as an alternative. I found a cheap i5 3470T with 8GB DDR3.

I got excited, however I saw people online talking about how I needed a dedicated GPU to stream things. So, since I only want to watch this m3u list and I don’t care about 4K and stuff, would this system suffice?

The m3u list is being hosted by someone else, if that matters.

I have multiple clients throughout the house and over time they've all become out of sync from a skin point of view..

I'm hopefully moving to the Bello skin soon but i'd like to set up one device (vero 4k) and then move the "build" to the other devices without also screwing up the networking and naming for each device...

Does anyone have a way for me to do this seamlessly? I don't want to have to deal with missing dependencies etc

I want a widget for my tv category that shows the latest shows there have been episodes added for.. but i don't want it to show 3 of them if 3 episodes have been added.. on AZ i have this working fine.. but i can't find the right widget on Bello... can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've been looking into easy ways to stream my content between devices, I've tried UPnP servers and Subsonic, but I don't feel like they're what I need. What's the difference between Kodi and Plex, and what should I use?

So before i would get this warning after i scanned for new files, but i just ignored it cause the shows were still being added to my library. But now nothing is getting added. I checked the log and it just shows the folders of where the video files were placed... like theres no info on why/how it was unable to scrap the info. I also tried using a different TVDB scrapper((the TVDBnew)[https://i.imgur.com/pqxTmQO.jpg]) and it looks like it scans and I dont get an error, but the new shows are not actually added to the library.
Anyone know whats going on here? Do i just need to clear the entire app and start fresh, or is that scrapper or thetvdb system not working with kodi anymore?(I know the site is up, and my plex server is still able to scrap from them using the exact same files on a PC using a different hard drive)

Also sorry if i'm not giving enough or the right info, i'm kind of green with this stuff and have not messed around with kodi in any indepth way beyond setting it up on my shield, and that was more than 4 years ago.
Also, i really want to keep using tvdb's database, since my entire library is set up around it and like i mentioned, i have a plex server thats working fine so re-doing ALL my files to match up with some other database sounds like hell(I'm sure 99% of the file names would be fine, but i know the orders of some specials[S00E--] will be different and combing through that does not sound fun)

My original setup was a 22" dvi monitor and a tv connected through hdmi, with kodi running at full screen on the tv and everything worked great. Recently, that monitor died so I used it as an opportunity to upgrade to a pair of 27" monitors using display port to daisy chain them with MST. (so video card -> tv via hdmi, and video card -> monitor 1 via display port, monitor 1 -> monitor 2 via display port)

Unfortunately, when I try to make kodi full screen by hitting , all 3 displays black out and don't return until eventually i hit again and kodi reverts to windowed mode (then all 3 displays come back from their blackscreen status).

I have tried full screening on the monitors as well to see if the problem was display specific, and had the same issue regardless of where I full screened.

I have found that if I turn the secondary monitor off, (so 1 monitor on and tv on) I can go full screen on kodi without an issue. If i turn the 2nd monitor on while kodi is full screen though, all 3 screens black out until i hit to send kodi to full screen.

I have tried updating kodi (originally 20.1, upgraded to 20.2) however that made no difference.

I have tried upgrading video drivers 537.13 to 537.34 , then downgrading back to 537.13 with clean-install. My video card is on the older side (geforce rtx 1060), however since it can drive all 3 monitors without an issue when kodi isn't in full screen (and it can run games on one of the displays at fullscreen) I don't believe the video card is the issue (I do have plans to upgrade in the not too distant future).

Is there anything else I'm overlooking? (settings wise I do have Settings -> Display -> Blank other displays turned off, but that shouldn't matter since it's blanking ALL displays, not other as that feature would do). The only thing really jumping out as a constant at this point is that second monitor that's daisy chained. Is it possible kodi doesn't like MST configurations?

I have installed the latest version of Kodi on my android TV. But I can't find the option to turn on the Dolby True HD passthrough, there even no this option. Does anyone have the same issue? Did you already solve it? or know the reason of ti.

I plan to buy some android TV box and install Kodi on it. I would like to play movies on it from the hard drive on the TV. I want to use Kodi mainly as a kind of movie browser and organizer using TMDB addon. I have four questions:

1) When Kodi creates a catalog of movies (e.g. using the TMDB addon), does it remember it after shutting down?

2) Does it remember the created catalog after disconnecting the hard drive?

3) Does it remember the created catalog even after I upload some movies to the hard drive, or does it just add new movies to the catalog?

4) Does it remember the catalog after I disconnect the hard drive, connect another hard drive, and then the original hard drive again?

Hi- I've been at my wits end trying to find a plug-in for kodi 20 that is as formidable as the Apple iTunes Podcast plugin which now no longer works

Does anyone have any recommendations for an all encompassing podcast plugin for 20?

Maybe this will help someone: My FireTV Stick 4K Max was always struggling with huge high bitrate 60GB+ files over SMB or NFS. I did the usual optimization dance, Samba Tuning and advancedsettings.xml etc. Nothing helped, performance was just too inconsistent. Only in Kodi on the FireTV, everything else was fine.

Today I setup a WebDAV Server using Apache2 for usage in Kodi. It’s night and day and all buffering problems are gone. I also still use an optimized advancedsettings.xml with more caching.

Since this doesn’t seem like an obvious solution I thought I’d mention it here. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Edit: Just to be clear, if you are using something like a NAS or something like FreeNas/OMV you should be able to setup WebDAV with a few clicks. I did a manual setup since I’m just running pure Debian for my network storage.

Edit2: FYI Kodi enforces a valid certificate if you do WebDAV over https (also called „DAVs“). You can’t use a self signed cert. if you just use it in your LAN at home one could argue that regular unecrypted DAV is probably fine for media streaming.

Am I correct in my reading of the wiki that there's no way to have kodi automatically add artwork for sets that already exist? I have a bunch that aren't showing up after I had to do a fresh install/update/library rebuild. I do my Metadata with TMM and, as far as I can tell, all my artwork is in the correct format, but kodi only seems to be adding the few sets that include movies that are brand new to the folder structure. I don't want to have to go through and set the artwork for every movie set.

I'm running the latest Kodi on a Windows 11 PC. I've tried multiple non-HDR TVs, but I just get a black output, although subtitles and UI elements are shown. What is needed for this to work?
